Goal trauma is a phenomenon where something specific happened in your life and you have set up a protective mechanism within your nervous system. 

What causes this is when you've set a stretchy goal before. As I'm explaining it, something will probably pop right into your mind. 

It's something you wanted and you went after it. You threw yourself into it. No matter what anyone would say, you wouldn't be dissuaded … you just knew it was going to be wonderful. 

And then something happened, it all fell apart, it didn't work, and your heart was broken.
